Very elegant small antique oak longcase (grandfather) clock of eight day duration.
The oak case stands just 80 inches high. The trunk carries a long arched-top trunk door edged with moulding. The hood has an arched top with brass Corinthian full front columns and rear quarter columns. Use of dentil moulding is made around the hood top with two brass ball finials.
The original brass framed movement is of eight day duration with the hours sounding on a single bell.
The time is displayed via blued steel hands to the pretty painted dial almost certainly produced by James Wilson, the highly regarded Birmingham dialmaker. It has Roman hour numerals and conventional five-minutes markings. There is an inside calendar pointer and subsidiary seconds dial. The dial is signed “Jno Bullock Bps Waltham”. It is an early example of a painted dial and has gesso decorated corners in imitation of the corner spandrels used on earlier brass dials. The dial arch carries floral decoration.
