William Podger - Bridgewater

WILLIAM PODGER OF BRIDGWATER (SOMERSET)

Circa 1830

Height 87 inches

Regency period mahogany eight day longcase (grandfather) clock with rocking ship automata.

The mahogany case, standing 87 inches high excluding finials, is typical of the area period. There is good use of nice quality flame mahogany veneers with bold satinwood stringing to the case and hood. The arch top has a wavy edge cresting between the finials and there is a similar wavy edge to the hood door framing the dial.

The brass framed movement is of eight day duration with the hours sounding on a bell.

The time is displayed via brass hands to the painted dial with Roman numerals. There is a subsidiary seconds dial and date aperture. The dial is signed "W Podger Bridgewater" and the four corners carry floral decoration. To the arch is a rocking ship automata framed by a castle and cliffs.

All our grandfather clocks have been sympathetically restored to the highest standards by our small team of specialist craftsmen and skilled artisans.

They are offered for sale clearly priced, delivered and installed in your home with a full guarantee as to their authenticity and good working order.
