George III period English regulator longcase clock
This exceptional high quality clock is housed in its original mahogany case with rich figuring - sometimes refered to as 'flame mahogany'
The overall proportions and small size set it apart from the average clock of this type
The precision movement is of a type known as a 'regulator' because of the numerous refinements made in the pursuit of the most accurate timekeeping - substantially made with refined wheelwork - dead-beat escapement - large brass pendulum bob with wooden rod - maintaining power, so as not to lose time when winding . It goes for eight days on one winding and strikes the hours on a bell
A wonderful clock in exemplary condition
